Cornish born, Cornish kept
I am Cornish. I grew up on this coast, and Porthleven has always been my favourite corner of it. Triton is my own home, not a pure investment, and it is looked after that way: carefully chosen furnishings, a full kitchen, and the small things you only think of if you have actually lived somewhere.
Named after the god of the sea, the house was once a working net loft. Fishermen dried and mended their nets in the room you will be sleeping in.
The View
Nothing in the way. Not a thing.
The sea view here is genuinely uninterrupted. Nothing between you and the water, no roofs, no other houses in the frame. The living room windows sit above the beach and give you the whole sweep of Mount's Bay, all the way out to the Lizard on a clear day. I often sit working from home and see people floating or kitesurfing past the window.
It changes constantly. Flat turquoise glass in the morning, silver haze by lunch, and in a winter swell the Atlantic throws itself at the sea wall below while you watch it from the sofa. Porthleven can get some fierce storms and Triton has a front row seat.
The Cottage
Made locally, filled with local work
A lot of the items in Triton came from within a few miles of it. The larger furniture pieces were made by Cornish makers rather than ordered in a flat pack: solid timber, built for the odd angles of an old net loft rather than dropped into it.
The artwork on the walls is all by artists working here on the Lizard and around Porthleven and Penzance. Paintings of this bay, this light, these cliffs, bought from the people who painted them. If you fall for one, ask and I will tell you where to find them.
The rest is simple and unfussy: a comfy sofa, thoughtful tableware, brass taps, and a shaker kitchen with just enough room to cook something good.

Life at Triton
Turn Left
The coast path, three steps from the door
Come out of Triton, turn left, and you are on the South West Coast Path within a minute. The path climbs above the cliffs and opens onto three miles of sand running towards Loe Bar and Gunwalloe, usually with barely anyone on it.
Walk twenty minutes and you reach Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest natural lake, separated from the sea by nothing more than a bank of shingle. Keep going and you can make a proper day of it to Church Cove. Turn right instead and you are in the harbour in five minutes, among the pubs, bakeries and boats.

Porthleven is one of Cornwall's most characterful harbour villages: a working fishing port with a serious reputation for food, independent shops, and some of the best coastal walking in the county.

Before you book
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is by 10am. This gives the housekeeping team enough time to get the place ready for you after the previous guests leave. If you need a different time, let us know before booking and we will see what we can do.
Is there parking?
Triton does not have its own parking space. Mounts Road is a narrow no-through road without turning space, so while you can stop outside to drop bags off, you cannot park there. Free on-street parking is usually available on the road behind, and there are free car parks a short walk away.
Can I bring children?
Triton is a small one-bedroom property designed primarily for one or two adult guests. Babies in arms are welcome, but please be aware that space in the bedroom for a travel cot is limited. This and other baby equipment are not provided either. The property also has a narrow, relatively steep staircase and is not specifically equipped or childproofed for crawling babies, toddlers or young children.
Are pets welcome?
One small to medium-sized, well-behaved dog is very welcome at Triton with a fee of £20. Please towel your dog off after wet or sandy walks and use one of the throws provided to cover the cream sofa if your dog joins you on it. We ask that they are kept off beds, not left in the property unattended and cleaned up after in the garden.
